Fishing
Experience at Bung Sam Lan.
A four day trip to Bangkok fishing, eating and shopping. Date 1-4
June 2005
This is my first experience fishing for this kind of giant, I thought
it wasn’t too difficult like Pasir Ris pond fishing. Where can
the fish go in the pond with just 10ft of water… I was dead
wrong!!
In BSL every fishes are power pack even the deepest part of the lake
is 10 feet the one catch can ware you out!
We planed for 2 days fishing and end up only fish for a day. The giant
ware us out after 2 to 3 catches. Total the 4 of us caught about 20
Mekong and Patin fishes and burst about 10.
In the morning warm up catch, below 10kg and after lunch 15kg and
above.
The largest landed was 40kg+ Mekong and smallest was about 5kg+ Patin
.
One of the burst believe to be more than 60kg+ , because this one
cannot stop, just peeling lines from the reel until line bust. The
experience guide said “very big!, 60gk+” .
What species are stock in BSL Lake?
Stock with the world largest fresh water fish, the Giant Mekong Catfish
(Pangasianodon gigas) the Giant Siamese Carp Catlocarpio siamensis,
and the river catfish Pangasianodon hypophthalmus are three of the
largest freshwater fish in the world, measuring up to three meters
in length and weighing 660 pounds (300 kilograms).
All these can be fished at The Bung Sam Lan Lake in Bangkok. This
lake is one of the most extraordinary fisheries in the world. The
20 acres swamp was converted to a lake 17 years ago. It is stocked
with a huge variety of native Thai and imported fish: |
